Generalized Process for Attestation for UAE
The process of document attestation for UAE is carried out in different stages. In 2019, the entire process was decentralized by the MEA to the Branch Secretariats and the local RPOs. The procedure for attestation is quite a standard one but can vary depending on the type of documents and the state where the documents originated. A generalized process for the documents is given below
At the Regional Level
It is the starting point of the attestation process. For educational documents, you need to get the document verified by the notary or the University where the documents were issued. In the case of commercial documents, the verification needs to be performed by the Chamber of Commerce.
At the State Level
Depending on the nature of the document, the next step would be to get the documents verified from three different organizations at the state level. The three departments are the State Home Department, Human Resource Department, and the Sub-Divisional magistrate. Even though SDM is an independent organization, its verification is considered to be on the state level.
Get MEA Stamp
The last stage of the authentication process from the home government is to get an MEA stamp from the Ministry of External Affairs. It is the central government organization responsible for foreign affairs of the country.
Embassy Attestation
The officials at the UAE Embassy in the home country will verify and attest to the documents. For most countries, this is the final stage of the attestation process.
MOFA
The documents will be sent to the UAE and get attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before being returned to India.
The time needed for the entire process will depend on several factors. But, it can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to a month for it to be completed, as long as there are no unnecessary delays.
