Perfect is an understatement!
"Oh my god, Becky!" - I like big villas, and I cannot lie...

My gosh! The Govardana villa at Dwaraka, the Royal Villas, in Ubud, Bali, is stunning! I highly recommend staying at Dwaraka to experience utopia and a touch of royalty during your visit to Ubud.

Dwaraka the Royal Villas & Hotel Grounds

Developed and launched in 2015 by a member of the Balinese Royal Family, Dwaraka, the Royal Villas, is a gorgeous boutique hotel located 2 kilometres north of central Ubud. Featuring elegant, ornate and colourful Balinese architecture throughout and surrounded by lush tropical gardens overlooking a rice paddy field, Dwaraka the Royal Villas is a tranquil slice of paradise and the ultimate place to recharge one's batteries.

Dwaraka the Royal Villas consists of 10 luxurious villas:
  • 4x one-bedroom private pool villas
  • 4x two-bedroom private pool villas
  • 1x four-bedroom private pool villa
  • Plus a Balinese Royal Villa that is the preferred choice for members of the Balinese Royal family whenever visiting Ubud. (This room is also available to be reserved when not occupied).

My Experience

Due to a significant storm crossing over Ubud, I unfortunately didn't manage to make check-in until 10:30 pm. I arrived at reception hungry, and as the kitchen had closed at 10 pm, the staff had the forethought to prearrange a filling sandwich to be prepared for my arrival. I was appreciative they were courteous enough to think ahead for me.

After being shown to my villa, I ran around for about 10 minutes, in awe, looking at everything and repeating the word 'wow'. The Govardana villa is impressive. The detail of the Balinese fixtures and fittings inside the villa is incredible, plus frangipanis were placed throughout, adding a soft aroma to the villa and indulging my senses even further. Additional to the charming setting, tiny fireflies floated around outside, above the pool. Picture perfect.

After taking advantage of a lovely bottle of white wine in my room, and chasing around the intriguing fireflies, I ended up falling asleep watching a spectacular lightning storm and woke up to a beautiful view.
Included in the price was a complimentary 15-minute foot massage at Radha Spa (located on the property), which once completed immediately made me book a full body Balinese massage. Super relaxing and a solution to aid my sore shoulders after lugging around my heavy backpack.

I cannot praise Dwaraka the Royal Villa's highly enough. Any sentence I say cannot do the property justice. I loved every second of my stay, so much so, I threw the majority of my plans out the window just to relax and make the most of the exquisite accommodation and excellent service provided. Dwaraka the Royal Villas were to be my last private accommodation before travelling to Java and then commencing a long stretch of staying in backpacker hostels throughout Malaysian Borneo, and I was savouring every second of luxury. I didn't want to leave.
