You get to be very close to nature, people, different cultures and traditions on the way. It can be a liberating and insightful experience. With so many beautiful, spectacular and amazing places around the world, one can go on hundreds of road trips, and each time it will be a unique experience. Here are 7 road trips all bike riders out there should experience.
1. Make A Trip to Mount Everest From Kathmandu, Nepal
Bike road trips around the Himalayan Mountains are very popular. A trip from Kathmandu to Mount Everest is an exciting journey wherein you pass through the Chinese border, the Rongbuk monastery to Mount Everest base camp. The trips organised by tour operators are around a 14-day trip from Kathmandu to Mt Everest.
2. Glide on Your Bike from Manali To Leh In India
Travelling from Manali to Leh in India on a motorcycle is another beautiful and amazing experience that bikers should take. Along the way, you pass the Khardung La, the Rohtang La and the Darcha Pass. There are several beautiful spots to visit in Leh too. Equip yourself well with wind proof jackets and other essentials.
3. Have A Ball of a Time on The Verdon Gorge in France
The Verdon Gorge in Southern France is a breath-taking site to behold. It is known as Europe's Grand Canyon. 25 kilometres in length and around 700 kilometres deep, the scenic beauty is magnificent. The terrain is quite unpredictable. You will be riding on a flat patch of land and all of a sudden find yourself going down in a huge canyon. Stay alert and enjoy.
4. Twist and Turn on The George Washington Highway in the US
Another heck of a ride is on the George Washington Highway in West Virginia. With so many twists and turns, this is an enjoyable ride along the northern side of the amazing Monongahela Forest. A great place to take a break midway is the State Cathedral Park. This incredible journey takes you through mountains, rivers and amazing people along the way.
5. Curves and More Curves on The Tail of The Dragon in the US
You are on a bike and there aren't many curves? That doesn’t seem to fulfil the purpose of riding. So, hop onto the Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina and deal with 318 curves around just 11 miles. This spectacular ride borders on the south eastern side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. A word of caution here. With so many curves all around, stay sane and drive slowly while enjoying the magnificent scenery.
6. Enjoy The Great Ocean Road in Australia
This trip from Port Campbell to Anglesea in Australia is an 18-mile short stretch that takes you through winding roads along the rugged coast and then you detour inland across the Otway National Park. More often than not, bike rides are more about adrenalin rush on treacherous roads. But this road trip is pretty relaxed, easy and enjoyable. Since it is a small trip, you even get time to explore the little towns on the way.
7. Ride on Ruta 40, The Longest Road in Argentina
One of the longest and busiest roads in South America, Ruta 40 runs parallel to the magnificent Andean mountains. With stunning scenery as the backdrop, you get to even cross several national parks along the way. Some of the major attraction places along the way are the Strait of Magellan, the Wine Trail and the Talampaya National Park to name a few.
Next time you are planning to take a vacation trip with your close buddies, ditch the tourist buses and trains and head for a motor cycle road trip and experience the difference.
